"Fight or Flight" |
Over the years, the wolf has been misunderstood, it has been thought to be a vicious animal. Many fables and stories such as the "The Big Bad Wolf" have created this attitude toward the wolf. I do not recall ever hearing a wolf attacking a human. Wolves are rarely seen as their keen sense of smell and hearing alert them to the danger of man. In this painting I have attempted to capture the moment the wolf becomes aware of an unknown predator. Image Size: 11" x 14"

"Uncle Luke" |
I envy people who continue the traditional life style of trapping, hunting and fishing. These were customary ways of life which have been passed down for centuries. As society changes and people are forced to change; however, there are a small number who continue to fall the traditional way. Uncle Luke was one of those very few. He continued the traditional life style of our ancestors and lived off the land. His camp holds many memories for our family, and his hunting and trapping tales are still told when we get together. "Snowy Owl" |
Residing in James Bay Area, you can often spot a snowy owl in the open country. He will perch on a high peak to get a good view of the area, seeking food, such as mice. This snowy owl was seen sitting on a tree stump, which may have drifted along the coast of James Bay during the summer tide. In the winter months the snow blows constantly in the Lowlands, creating layers which can be seen on this snow cover stump. Image size: 13" x 22"

"Close Call - Loon" |
The loon, nicked named "the Great Northern Diver" for its streamedlined, toepedo-like body, is known to be a superb aquatic hunter. Its food supply consists mainly of smaller fish and minnows, and it feeds by sight. It requires relatively clear water to forage. Image size: 11" x 17"
